Diomande Gives Green Light to Liverpool as PSG Hesitate on Record Fee

Liverpool and PSG are locked in pursuit of RB Leipzig's Ivorian winger Yan Diomande this summer, but the Reds appear to hold the upper hand in a battle that could yield one of football's most eye-watering transfer fees.
The 19-year-old has signalled his willingness to join both clubs, with the Merseyside outfit seemingly best positioned to land him. Diomande is primed to depart Leipzig after just a single Bundesliga campaign, ready to test himself at the next level having already caught the attention of Europe's elite.
Liverpool's need for reinforcement on the wing is particularly acute following Mohamed Salah's departure. With Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa currently among Andoni Iraola's attacking options—neither wholly convincing as Premier League operators—Diomande represents the calibre of talent the club is pursuing. Rio Ngumoha remains in the mix, yet the recruitment focus clearly lies elsewhere.
The Parisian outfit's financial caution may prove decisive. PSG, despite their Champions League pedigree, have shown reluctance to splash substantial funds on the teenager, whereas Liverpool are prepared to break the bank. According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Diomande has green-lit overtures from both clubs, with multiple discussions already underway between PSG, Leipzig and the player's representatives.
FootMercato's reporting suggests PSG remain interested but are waiting for the appropriate moment before committing financially. The Parisians harbour no appetite for overpaying, convinced their squad already boasts sufficient quality. Bayern Munich have also registered interest, though Diomande appears less enamoured with that prospect.
Leipzig occupy a commanding negotiating position, their lengthy contractual hold on the player allowing them to demand premium compensation. A €100m (£86m) valuation has circulated widely, yet German outlet BILD claims the Bundesliga club could push for €150m (£130m)—a figure only realistic should Liverpool and PSG engage in an all-out auction.
At £130m, Diomande would rewrite the record books: Liverpool's costliest ever acquisition, the Premier League's priciest signing, Leipzig's record departure and the Bundesliga's most expensive exit.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool are actively negotiating with Diomande's camp, with PSG equally engaged in talks. The transfer specialist revealed the player's preference is for swift resolution ahead of the Ivory Coast's World Cup campaign, which commences on 11 June—just nine days away.
That accelerated timeline means developments could arrive imminently rather than stretching across weeks or months. Diomande's team are keen to conclude matters before the tournament begins, allowing their client to focus on international football without the distraction of an unresolved future.
