Alonso Locks Down Acheampong as Chelsea Reject United's Pursuit

Chelsea have slammed the door shut on Josh Acheampong this summer, with new manager Xabi Alonso declaring the young defender off-limits despite considerable interest from across Europe and the Premier League.
The 20-year-old right-back, who can also operate in the centre and at left-back, has been locked down as a key part of Alonso's first-team plans. Chelsea's ownership at BlueCo and the Spanish manager have jointly decided the England Under-21 international will remain at Stamford Bridge, rejecting a pair of Premier League approaches alongside interest from clubs across the continent.
Manchester United emerge as the clear losers in this transfer saga. The Red Devils have been tracking Acheampong's availability, but will find no sympathy from West London. Bayern Munich and Manchester City have also cast admiring glances in his direction, only to receive the same rebuff.
Acheampong, who progressed through Chelsea's academy system to establish himself in the first team, remains contracted until summer 2029. That lengthy deal, combined with Alonso's evident faith in the defender, makes any summer exit virtually impossible.
The prospect of game time under Alonso may yet prove decisive. Chelsea are hunting a new starting centre-back, and the manager's tactical preferences—potentially reverting to a back-three—could determine whether Acheampong features regularly next season. Should opportunities dry up, the player may harbour thoughts of exploring alternatives. For now, though, Chelsea's position is crystal clear: Acheampong is not for sale, full stop.
This represents Alonso's opening gambit in the transfer window, a statement of intent about which players form the foundation of his rebuild at Stamford Bridge.
