Perez "Obsessed" with Vinicius Contract as Klopp Dismisses Madrid Speculation

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez remains fixated on securing a fresh contract for Vinicius Junior, even as speculation swirled earlier in the year about the Brazilian winger's future at the club.

The transfer correspondent laid out the facts on his YouTube channel on Monday evening, emphasising that Perez's commitment to keeping the 25-year-old at Estadio Bernabéu has only strengthened since the managerial change. Under Xabi Alonso's tenure, contract negotiations had stalled due to a fractious relationship between the former Bayer Leverkusen boss and his star player. That dynamic has shifted entirely with Álvaro Arbeloa now in charge.

"Florentino is obsessed with Vinicius Junior signing a new contract," Romano stated. "The relationship between the president and the player is excellent, and now obviously with the manager as well, with Arbeloa. Real Madrid are pushing. Real Madrid are ready. The contract proposal is on the table."

With Vinicius's current deal expiring in 2027, Madrid are keen to resolve matters swiftly. Romano confirmed the fresh momentum: "There is really a strong attempt by Real Madrid to get everything done as soon as possible."

The speculation about Vinicius's future had been fuelled by a February 2026 report suggesting that Manchester United were prepared to table an offer in the region of €150 million (£130m) for the winger. More eyebrow-raising still were claims that Jurgen Klopp—then being mooted as a potential successor to Arbeloa—had supposedly encouraged Madrid to consider the bid.

Klopp has made short shrift of such nonsense. Speaking at a Magenta TV press conference, the former Liverpool manager delivered a characteristically dry riposte to the endless rumour mill: "Has Real Madrid ever called me? Not once, not a single time in my managerial career. I'll take over at Atlético Madrid as well, preferably at the same time. Sorry, Madrid, you'll have to ring first!"

On the possibility of managing Germany, Klopp offered similarly firm clarity: "I'm not thinking about that at all at the moment. Who knows what the next few years will bring, but there are absolutely no plans in that regard."

For now, the narrative appears settled: Vinicius remains Madrid's priority, and Perez is determined to keep him.
