Bayern's Laimer Set to Give Vinicius a Bruising Welcome in Champions League Quarter-Final

Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior faces a stern examination of his talents when Bayern Munich come calling in the Champions League quarter-finals next month, according to one German football authority who has little doubt the Brazilian will find life considerably tougher than it was against Manchester City.

The Spanish giants dispatched Pep Guardiola's side courtesy of a brace from Vinicius at the Etihad, maintaining their remarkable run of knocking City out for three consecutive seasons. Bayern, meanwhile, dismantled Atalanta with ruthless efficiency to set up a tantalising last-eight encounter.

But Vinicius should prepare himself for a markedly different proposition. Maik Franz, the former Bundesliga stalwart who represented Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt amongst others, has cast a rather ominous shadow over the winger's prospects. The danger, he insists, comes in the form of Bayern full-back Konrad Laimer—a player reportedly courting Liverpool's interest for a summer switch.

"He'll be right up his arse, always hanging on his heels," Franz declared on Sport1's Fantalk, painting a vivid picture of what awaits. "He'll be provoking him physically the whole time and really getting under his skin. This elegant, fast Vinicius – and then comes this heel-biter, this piranha, and eats him alive."

The strategy, Franz believes, is precisely calibrated to neutralise Vinicius' electric attacking prowess. Laimer's combative, suffocating approach is, in the former defender's estimation, exactly what the doctor ordered.

Vinicius may now be regretting his post-match swagger following the City victory, when he issued a pointed "Let's get them!" challenge to Bayern. If Franz's warnings carry weight, the Brazilian could find himself firmly put in his place.

The first leg unfolds in Madrid on April 7, with Bayern hosting the return fixture eight days later. The victors will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Liverpool in the semi-finals.

Harry Kane, meanwhile, has sounded a defiant note from the Bayern camp. The England captain, who has plundered 47 goals across all competitions this season—including 10 in nine Champions League appearances—insists his side harbour no fear of the 15-time European champions.

"It'll be a tough game," Kane reflected after Bayern's demolition of Atalanta, a 10-2 aggregate triumph. "Whenever you face Real Madrid in the Champions League, you expect a fight. But we'll be ready. We don't fear anyone, even though it's going to be tough."
