The United States have booked their ticket to the World Cup knockout rounds after a thoroughly professional display against Australia on Friday evening. An own goal from Cameron Burgess inside the opening quarter and a well-taken header from Alex Freeman just before the interval secured a comfortable 2-0 triumph for the co-hosts.

It was a familiar story for the Americans, who had already forced an own goal in their 4-1 demolition of Paraguay. This time, Burgess was the unfortunate culprit, turned the ball past his own goalkeeper after Folarin Balogun's run down the left flank found Ricardo Pepi in the box. The Americans' victory lifts them to six points and into the last 32. They travel to Los Angeles to face Turkey on Thursday in their final group match, with a chance to top Group D if the Turks slip up against Paraguay later on Friday.
