Spurs Eye West Ham's Bowen After Fernandes Swoop as De Zerbi Overhauls Attack

Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham are plotting a second devastating blow to West Ham's prospects with a move for captain Jarrod Bowen, just days after completing their club-record £85million acquisition of midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The north London outfit's summer rebuild has been nothing short of remarkable given they've recovered from back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League. Alongside Fernandes, the Lilywhites have already welcomed Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Martin Dubravka through the door. An even bigger statement of intent looms with Sandro Tonali's imminent £100m arrival from Newcastle, which will eclipse Fernandes' record tag.

Yet De Zerbi remains unsatisfied with his attacking arsenal. Spurs mustered just eight goals across his opening seven matches at the helm during last season's dire closing stretch, with the front three responsible for merely three of those. Richarlison chipped in with a pair, underlining the creative void that needs plugging.

Enter Bowen. The 29-year-old West Ham skipper racked up 20 Premier League goal involvements during the Hammers' relegation campaign and has long been courted by Tottenham's hierarchy.

Spurs insider John Wenham is convinced the winger represents the missing piece. "He needs to move for his own career – he's too good for the Championship," Wenham told Tottenham News. "He would start for us at right-wing. He would 100 per cent start for us and be good and be a guarantee of goals. He would be one of our main goalscorers. He'd solve the issue we have in that Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons, when he is fit, do not score enough goals."

The prospect of West Ham surrendering both their standout performers to a direct rival appears remote, particularly given the explosive reaction it would provoke among the Hammers faithful. Fernandes' one-season tenure makes his departure sting; Bowen, however, represents six years of service and has achieved near-legendary status at the London Stadium.

Yet other suitors are circling. Aston Villa have emerged as the frontrunners in the chase for Bowen's signature, according to sources close to the matter. Everton, too, remain in contention, with the winger reportedly enthusiastic about a reunion with David Moyes—the manager under whom he produced his finest football in east London.

Tottenham's position is further complicated by the presence of Mohammed Kudus, who operates across the right flank. The Ghana international is expected to rejoin pre-season training after missing the final six weeks of the campaign with a quad injury.
