Vuskovic's Father Urges Caution Over Premature Premier League Jump

Tottenham's young defensive prospect Luka Vuskovic could yet remain in the Bundesliga beyond the summer, according to his father, who is keen to see the 18-year-old avoid accelerating his career progression too quickly.

The Croatian centre-back has been thriving during his temporary stint at Hamburg this season, racking up 1,170 minutes of football while chipping in with a pair of goals from his defensive role. He's also contributed to keeping the opposition at bay on several occasions, building valuable experience in one of Europe's top-five leagues.

At Spurs, Vuskovic finds himself well down the pecking order. With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven forming the preferred partnership, and Radu Dragusin recently returning from a spell on the sidelines, the north London club have an embarrassment of riches in the centre-back department—six in total. This glut of options meant the summer arrival had no realistic path to minutes this campaign, making the loan move to Germany an obvious solution.

Tottenham's hierarchy have been keeping close tabs on his performances across the channel and are reportedly delighted with what they're seeing. The club view him as integral to their long-term blueprint and may well keep him out on loan through the remainder of the season.

Speaking to Sportske Novosti, Vuskovic's father outlined his thinking on what comes next: "Until June, he's definitely at HSV. After that, we'll have a sit-down with Tottenham and determine the best course of action. I'm extremely satisfied with how he's living and training. I wouldn't like him to skip steps and go straight to the English Premier League, which I believe is the strongest in the world. There's still plenty of room for growth. As far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't be bad if he stayed in Germany."

The suggestion is clear: another campaign in the Bundesliga—whether with Hamburg or elsewhere in Germany—might serve the teenager better than an immediate promotion to English football's elite division. Should Vuskovic continue to impress abroad, he'll certainly have the credentials to challenge Romero and Van de Nen for a starting berth when his loan concludes. Whether Spurs opt to accelerate that timeline or extend his development period remains to be determined come summer.
