Spurs Push Hard for Tonali as Greenwood Links Firmly Dismissed

Tottenham's summer recruitment drive is gathering pace, with the club now zeroing in on Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as they look to strengthen their squad following a nervy escape from relegation.
The Lilywhites scraped survival on the final day of the 2025/26 season, edging past Everton 1-0 to secure their Premier League status by the narrowest of margins. With West Ham lurking just two points behind them, it's clear why Spurs have made the transfer market a priority heading into the new campaign.
Already this summer, Tottenham have moved quickly to bolster their ranks. Free agent signings Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Marco Senesi from Bournemouth arrived without a fee, while manager Roberto De Zerbi has overseen the completion of a £52m deal for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke. Manchester City winger Savinho has also been touted as a potential target.
Now, the North Londoners have set their sights on Tonali. Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Friday that Tottenham are actively working on bringing the Newcastle midfielder to the club, with De Zerbi keen on the acquisition. "Tottenham are aware of the player being open to joining," Romano stated, adding that the club remain "determined to get the deal done" as they "keep pushing."
However, one piece of summer gossip has been firmly extinguished. French outlet L'Equipe suggested that former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood could become a target for either Tottenham or Arsenal. Both Romano and Spurs insider Alistair Gold have quickly dismissed those claims.
Romano was unequivocal in his dismissal: "Tottenham are not working on a deal to sign Mason Greenwood despite reports."
Gold went further, describing the speculation as "utterly absurd" and confirming that Spurs have "no interest" in signing the Old Trafford academy product. The Football.London journalist suggested that such a move would make little sense given De Zerbi's recent appointment, leaving little room for doubt about the club's stance.
