Postecoglou Breaks Silence on Spurs' Relegation Battle: "They Need a Circuit-Breaker"

Ange Postecoglou has opened up on Tottenham's dire predicament, acknowledging the scale of the challenge facing the club he departed last season.

The ex-Celtic and Nottingham Forest manager, who was sacked following a 17th-place Premier League finish despite winning the Europa League, maintains a deep connection to Spurs despite the turbulent nature of his two-year tenure. What followed his exit—Thomas Frank's appointment and subsequent replacement by Igor Tudor—has only deepened the crisis at the north London outfit.

After their 3-0 hammering at Forest, Tottenham sit just one point above the drop zone. Reports suggest Tudor's time in charge has ended by mutual consent, with the club desperate to reverse a downward spiral.

Speaking on SEN 116, Postecoglou pulled no punches about the gravity of the situation. "They're in a hell of a fight," he declared. "Relegation is massive for any club but for Tottenham, it's a pretty big deal."

Yet the Australian refused to write off his former employers entirely, insisting they possess the squad depth to clamber clear of danger. "They have the quality to get out. They need a circuit-breaker for sure," Postecoglou added.

The 60-year-old, who invested heavily in Spurs' playing staff during his time in charge, revealed the emotional toll of witnessing their collapse. "It was two years and they were by no means easy years, but we invested a lot into them," he reflected. "Second last game we won a European trophy which was an incredible high. The connection there will be there forever."

Describing the Forest defeat as "an uncomfortable watch," Postecoglou admitted he remains closely invested in Spurs' fortunes. "We had two years together, you always have that attachment," he explained. "If you had told me in May last year that this would be the scenario of watching two teams I have managed in the last calendar year I would have said 'no that's beyond the realms of possibility'."
