Tottenham Players Show Fight for Frank as Sherwood Rules Out Sacking

Tottenham's stirring fightback at Manchester City this past weekend has provided a timely reminder that the players haven't downed tools on Thomas Frank, according to former Everton CEO Keith Wyness.

Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League after collecting just two victories from their last 15 outings, leaving Frank's position under scrutiny. Yet their Champions League campaign tells a markedly different story, with three consecutive wins culminating in a 2-0 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt that secured passage to the knockout stages.

The weekend's draw with City proved particularly telling. Despite trailing 2-0, Tottenham clawed their way back to earn a point, with Dominic Solanke notching both equalising goals. Wyness believes that second-half display revealed something crucial about the dressing room's current state of mind.

"Frank got that second half out of them and that did surprise me," Wyness told Football Insider. "I was writing them off at 2-0 down, but the comeback certainly showed me that the players are still playing for Frank."

The analyst suggested a European finish remains within reach for Spurs, which could yet prove palatable to the fanbase as evidence of progress. He also highlighted the scale of Tottenham's injury crisis as a mitigating factor, describing it as "unique in terms of that depth" compared to other clubs, and suggested this explains a measured approach in the transfer market, including the recent acquisition from Hearts whom he views as a prospect rather than an immediate solution.

"As the players come back, I think Spurs are going to be OK," Wyness added. "But we've got to look at the timings of that, and then I think everybody will start to ease off and things will calm down."

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood struck a bullish note regarding Frank's job security. Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood reasoned that if the board hadn't dispensed with the manager already, they're unlikely to do so before the campaign concludes.

"If they haven't sacked him by now, they won't," Sherwood said. "They don't want to sack Frank. They'll give him to the end of the season, and who knows?"
