Tottenham Eye Frankfurt's Kalimuendo Despite His Barren Premier League Record

Tottenham's forward line has been a source of considerable frustration this season, and it appears the club is already scouting potential reinforcements ahead of a crucial summer rebuild. According to reports, Spurs have their eye on Arnaud Kalimuendo—a move that raises more than a few eyebrows given the Frenchman's rather underwhelming spell in English football.

The striker, currently on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Nottingham Forest, arrives in the Bundesliga with a significant caveat: he never registered a goal in the Premier League during his permanent move to the City Ground last summer. In nine league outings totalling just 88 minutes, Kalimuendo drew a complete blank, though he did manage a pair of Europa League finishes.

Frankfurt possess an option to purchase Kalimuendo for €27 million (£23.5m), and the German club's hierarchy is believed to be considering whether to activate that clause. Manager Albert Riera is said to be a keen admirer, with reports suggesting Kalimuendo has impressed during his loan spell—scoring four goals and laying on one assist in 11 appearances. The comparison being drawn is to Randal Kolo Muani, who delivered 15 goals and 14 assists in his first Bundesliga season at Frankfurt.

Aston Villa are also mentioned as potential suitors for the 22-year-old.

Tottenham's need for attacking reinforcement is undeniable. Richarlison sits on nine Premier League goals, the closest to double figures among Spurs' forward options, while Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel have managed just three apiece. With the club currently occupying a precarious position in the league table—just a single point clear of the relegation zone—survival must come first. Yet if they secure their top-flight status, a thorough overhaul of their attacking department will be essential.

The club's stated interest is in a "creative striker profile," and whilst Kalimuendo certainly fits a certain mould, his Premier League pedigree offers little reassurance. The cautionary tale of Kolo Muani serves as a timely reminder: the German striker has managed merely one goal in 22 Premier League appearances despite proving prolific elsewhere. It's a pattern that should give Spurs pause for thought.
