Tottenham May Offload Romero or Van de Ven to Fast-Track Vuskovic Into First Team

Tottenham face a potential squad overhaul this summer, with a club insider suggesting the North London outfit might cash in on one of their established defenders to accelerate the rise of a promising young talent.

The situation at Spurs remains precarious on multiple fronts. Having crashed out of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid, European football will be absent from the fixture list next term. More pressingly, the club sit just a point clear of the Premier League's drop zone—a far grimmer concern than any continental disappointment.

Igor Tudor's tenure has been rocky thus far. Four consecutive defeats in all competitions preceded a steadying draw with Liverpool, followed by victory against Atletico in the return leg. These glimmers of progress, however, must become consistent if both survival and player retention are to be assured.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both been linked with departures as Spurs' form has deteriorated, but John Wenham, a Tottenham insider, reckons the departure of one of these centre-backs could serve a specific purpose: opening the door for Luka Vuskovic.

The 19-year-old has turned heads during a loan spell at Bundesliga outfit Hamburg and will attract suitors come summer. Yet Wenham believes Vuskovic may yet remain at Spurs if offered a genuine opportunity to stake his claim at the highest level following his season away.

Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham expressed confidence in Vuskovic's prospects, noting his long-term contract status until 2030 gives the club considerable leverage. He suggested that while both defenders departing would prove damaging, selling one could provide the platform Vuskovic requires to establish himself.

Wenham indicated that facilitating such a pathway would demonstrate to Vuskovic's representatives that the club is genuinely committed to his development—provided, of course, that Spurs can secure their Premier League status first.
