Spurs Dig In Over Bergvall as Forest Circles; Romero Also Eyeing Exit

Tottenham have made their position crystal clear to Lucas Bergvall: he is staying put. The 20-year-old Sweden international has been informed by the club that he will feature in Roberto De Zerbi's plans for the coming season, effectively shutting down any prospect of a move to Nottingham Forest.

Bergvall, who arrived at Spurs in 2024 and remains contracted until summer 2031, has accumulated 78 appearances for the north London outfit since his arrival. The midfielder has chipped in with two goals and nine assists across those outings, including recent involvement in Sweden's 2026 World Cup campaign.

The youngster's desire to leave, however, is hardly a secret. The Athletic revealed last month that Bergvall had made his frustrations known to the club, a position subsequently corroborated by transfer market authority Fabrizio Romano. The midfielder's concerns centre on his prospects for regular first-team football, a legitimate worry given Tottenham's recent business—the club has brought in Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and agreed a £100million deal with Newcastle for Sandro Tonali.

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge confirmed the club's intransigence on the matter, reporting that Bergvall has been told categorically that he is not leaving Spurs, despite holding five years remaining on his contract. Forest represent one of several suitors circling the midfielder, drawn by his obvious talent and potential for development.

That said, Bridge added a caveat: should Tottenham receive a sufficiently lucrative offer, the club's resolve might prove somewhat elastic. De Zerbi's admiration for the player appears genuine, though the manager's preferences may ultimately prove secondary to financial considerations.

Bergvall's frustrations are not isolated at the Tottenham training ground. Cristian Romero, the Argentina centre-back, is similarly plotting an exit despite having only recently signed a fresh contract last summer. The defender, currently at the World Cup, has attracted serious interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, though Italian clubs—including Inter, who retain their appreciation for him—have been deterred by the asking price.
