Tottenham are sharpening their pencils for a potential swoop on Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, with Roberto De Zerbi keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the summer window.

The Spurs boss, determined to strengthen a squad that finished 17th in the Premier League for a second consecutive season, has set his sights on reuniting Gakpo with Andy Robertson—the Scottish left-back who joined Tottenham as a free agent following his Anfield departure.

Gakpo has emerged as a genuine target alongside Manchester City's Savinho, whom Spurs pursued last summer and remain interested in securing. However, De Zerbi's preference appears to be tilting towards the Liverpool winger, with Tottenham actively weighing whether Gakpo could deliver greater immediate impact than the Brazilian.

The 27-year-old endured a forgettable domestic campaign for the Reds, notching nine goals and six assists across 52 matches. But his form at the ongoing 2026 World Cup has been altogether different—two goals and an assist in two matches suggests the winger is hitting his stride on the international stage.

Liverpool's summer recruitment, including the arrivals of Victor Munoz from Osasuna and the availability of Rio Ngumoha on the left wing, has left Gakpo questioning his future at Anfield. While the former PSV Eindhoven star isn't actively pushing for the exit, sources indicate he has little appetite for spending his prime years warming the bench.

Tottenham have held preliminary discussions with Liverpool regarding a deal, though the Merseysiders remain reluctant to part with their man. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed ENIC's interest but stressed that Liverpool have not yet sanctioned an exit, remaining content with Gakpo's long-term prospects. Any decision, Romano suggests, will take considerable time beyond the World Cup window.
