Spurs Circle Juventus Defender Bremer as De Zerbi Plots Summer Defensive Overhaul

Roberto De Zerbi has wasted little time getting down to business at Tottenham, and having rescued the club from the brink of Championship football, the Italian tactician is now planning an ambitious summer recruitment drive.

The defensive rebuild is well underway. Andy Robertson's arrival has already been confirmed, whilst Marcos Senesi is poised to join as a free agent following his Bournemouth exit. A second £50million bid for Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke has been tabled, with personal terms already agreed, and now Spurs have set their sights on Juventus.

Gleison Bremer has emerged as Tottenham's latest defensive target. The 29-year-old Brazilian carries a €58million (£50m) release clause in his Juventus contract, though the Serie A outfit could be persuaded to accept less. Tottenham have registered their interest and are poised to submit a formal offer in the coming days.

One intriguing wrinkle: Spurs could potentially sweeten the deal by offering Guglielmo Vicario, the goalkeeper long coveted by Juventus management as a long-term successor between their posts. Discussions remain fluid rather than concrete at this stage, though they're expected to intensify over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp has been singing the praises of both De Zerbi and young Spurs prospect Archie Gray. The former Tottenham boss told The London Evening Standard that Gray should be the cornerstone of any rebuild, likening his potential to Ray Wilkins' early captaincy at Chelsea.

"I think Archie Gray would be one of the people that you look to build your team around," Redknapp said. "He looks a fantastic young pro, good player, and over the last two years, he's probably been their best player. He could be like Ray Wilkins, who became captain of Chelsea when he was very young. He's good enough to do that."

Redknapp also backed Tottenham to secure a top-six Premier League finish next season, having narrowly avoided the drop this time around. "De Zerbi did a great job at Brighton. All the people I talk to who have played for him like him and respect him. I think he'll do well, I think next year they'll be up there," the pundit concluded.
