Tottenham Plot Bold Move for Gakpo as Liverpool Winger Eyes Exit

Spurs are gearing up to make a serious play for Liverpool's Cody Gakpo this summer, with the Dutch winger having signalled his desire to depart Merseyside following recent upheaval at the club.

Liverpool's shock decision to part ways with Arne Slot at the end of May has sent shockwaves through Anfield, with the Dutchman's exit coming despite widespread expectations he would remain in post. A disappointing fifth-place Premier League finish, coupled with a trophyless campaign and mounting frustration among the fanbase, ultimately forced the club's hand.

Gakpo, whose performances dipped compared to the previous season when Liverpool won the league title under Slot, is now among those reportedly keen to follow his compatriot out of the door. The arrival of new boss Andoni Iraola has intensified the winger's desire to seek pastures new, with uncertainty surrounding whether he features in the Spaniard's plans.

Tottenham are ready to capitalize on the situation, determined to lure Gakpo to north London as part of their summer recruitment drive. The club are hopeful of persuading both player and club to sanction a deal, with Roberto De Zerbi's new project presented as an attractive proposition.

Behind the scenes, Spurs are actively plotting how best to make their move, though Gakpo's stock has attracted attention from multiple quarters. Clubs across England, Spain, and Germany are circling the Eindhoven product, sensing an opportunity.

The north London side have already moved quickly in the transfer market. Andy Robertson's arrival was confirmed today, whilst Marco Senesi's switch from Bournemouth is also imminent. David Ornstein reported that Spurs had tabled an offer for Brighton's Van Hecke, and a deal for Manchester City's Savinho has been described as being "on" by Fabrizio Romano.

Heskey Warns Reds Fans

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has urged the club's supporters to exercise patience with incoming manager Iraola, cautioning against the managerial merry-go-round that has plagued other top sides.

Speaking to Betfred, Heskey suggested that fan pressure was ultimately responsible for Slot's demise, comparing Liverpool's situation to Arsenal's trajectory under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners' hierarchy backed their manager through a pair of eighth-place finishes before finally seeing the project bear fruit with a fifth-place campaign that has since blossomed into genuine title contention.

"That's modern football," Heskey reflected. "The owners, the Chief Exec and the rest of the hierarchy don't sack managers—the fans do. If the fans lose faith, then unfortunately this decision has to be taken."

He warned against repeating Manchester United's mistakes through constant managerial upheaval, urging Reds supporters to grant Iraola time to implement his vision rather than demanding instant results.
