Tottenham have finally got their man. After two failed attempts to prise Jan Paul van Hecke away from Brighton, Spurs have secured the Dutch centre-back for £52m, with both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein confirming the transfer is complete.

De Zerbi was adamant about landing Van Hecke, and persistence has paid off after initial bids of £40m and £50m were rebuffed by Brighton.

The deal comes with no add-ons attached, purely a fixed £52m fee. Ornstein noted separately that the Luka Vuskovic situation remains a distinct matter entirely, with Brighton's second offer for that player valued at £35m having been rejected by Tottenham.

This represents the third defensive reinforcement for Spurs this window. Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi both arrived on free transfers, their experience intended to shore up a backline that has occasionally proved unreliable. Yet Van Hecke represents the genuine statement of intent—a player De Zerbi actively campaigned to reunite with.

The manager's recruitment strategy isn't stopping there. Tonali's move from Newcastle appears to be gathering momentum, with the Italian midfielder signalling his willingness to join Spurs. The shared Brescia connection between player and manager is clearly proving influential, though Newcastle's £100m asking price remains a formidable obstacle with no flexibility expected from the Magpies.

Tottenham are simultaneously pursuing Manchester City's Savinho, with a £60m valuation in mind. Should that avenue close, sources suggest the club could yet swoop for West Ham's Crysencio Summerville, potentially derailing Manchester United's plans for the rapid winger.
