Tonali to Spurs by Week's End, but Bergvall Stays Put as Nottingham Forest's €50m Bid Rebuffed

Tottenham are set to complete the signing of Newcastle's Sandro Tonali before the week is out, with both the player and club edging closer to finalising terms on a long-term contract.

Roberto De Zerbi's side have made no bones about their midfield recruitment ambitions this summer, and Tonali appears to be the main man they're chasing. The Italian's arrival would follow four other summer additions already secured by Spurs—Andy Robertson, Marco Senesi, and Martin Dubravka all arriving as free agents, with Jan Paul van Hecke joining for £52 million.

Tonali remains on Tottenham's radar alongside West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, though Manchester United's interest in the latter has complicated any potential move there.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Newcastle midfielder's switch to North London is essentially done and dusted. Pedulla reported that Spurs are pushing the fee beyond the £100 million barrier, with Tonali's camp having struck an agreement some time ago. The new terms represent a significant step up from the £8 million plus add-ons Tonali secured when he renewed with Newcastle last October through June 2029. Under the fresh proposal, Tottenham would pay £12-13 million fixed annually alongside generous bonus payments.

Sport Mediaset subsequently reported that Tottenham remain optimistic about closing the deal by the end of this week. Whilst a personal agreement has been reached—a six-year contract worth €12 million including bonuses—negotiations between Spurs and Newcastle over the transfer fee continue. A gap between the two clubs' valuations remains, though Tottenham's confidence suggests they're closing in on a resolution.

On another front, Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Tottenham have rejected a €50 million bid for midfielder Lucas Bergvall, with Nottingham Forest reportedly behind the offer. Di Marzio indicated that Bergvall's camp are exploring exit options, aware that his playing time could be squeezed following Spurs' summer spending spree. Whilst other Italian clubs like Napoli have probed a potential deal, Di Marzio suggested they've only been willing to stretch to around €40 million.

The Nottingham Forest bid represents a serious statement of intent, yet Spurs have made their position crystal clear: they won't budge below €50 million. According to Di Marzio, the London club are holding firm at that threshold and have no intention of accepting anything less.
