Savinho to Tottenham: City Give the Nod as Spurs Eye Record Transfer

After two consecutive finishes in 17th place, Tottenham have made it abundantly clear that Roberto De Zerbi's squad requires a serious overhaul. The rebuild is already underway, with free agent arrivals Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi agreed in principle, but now the Lilywhites are plotting a blockbuster move that could reshape their attacking options.

The target? Savinho, the 22-year-old Brazilian currently at Manchester City – and crucially, the club has now sanctioned his exit.

Spurs' pursuit of Savinho is hardly a new story. Last summer, Tottenham lodged two separate offers for the winger, with their highest bid reaching €80m (approximately £70m). City rebuffed both approaches, preferring to keep Savinho on the books after their move for Real Madrid's Rodrygo fell through. The Brazilian subsequently put pen to paper on fresh terms at the Etihad in September 2025.

A year on, however, circumstances have shifted dramatically. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Savinho's campaign at City has proven challenging, with the player keen to secure regular first-team football. De Zerbi and his recruitment team at Tottenham have wasted no time in reviving their interest, and negotiations with City have been formally reopened.

The pivotal detail? All parties are now aligned. Savinho himself is enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Spurs, whilst City have informed the attacker he is free to leave this summer. That green light is precisely what was missing twelve months ago.

Tottenham's current transfer record stands at £65m – the fee they paid for Dominic Solanke in 2024 (£55m upfront plus £10m in performance-related add-ons). Should talks with City progress smoothly, Savinho would become the most expensive player in the club's history, with sources indicating his directness, creativity and positional flexibility would complement De Zerbi's tactical vision perfectly.

With momentum building and the player willing, this one looks set to run and run.
