Spurs Make Dramatic U-Turn on Vuskovic as Brighton Deal Looms; Van Hecke Pursuit Intensifies

Tottenham's summer recruitment drive has taken a curious twist, with the north London club now prepared to sanction the departure of young defender Luka Vuskovic—a complete reversal from their earlier stance on keeping the teenager.

The 19-year-old has impressed during a loan stint at Bundesliga side Hamburg and has drawn admiring glances from clubs across Europe. Initially, Spurs appeared determined to retain him for the forthcoming campaign, but Vuskovic has made his intentions clear: he wants to move to Brighton. The Seagulls, sensing an opportunity, have tabled a £30m bid and the youngster's representatives have even suggested the possibility of a buy-back clause in any agreement.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that Vuskovic has already struck a verbal agreement with Brighton on personal terms following positive discussions with boss Fabian Hürzeler and the club's hierarchy. Other interested parties have reportedly been rebuffed, with Brighton continuing to push hard for the transfer—though Plettenberg notes the deal remains complicated, with other clubs circling.

What makes this saga particularly intriguing is the simultaneous pursuit of Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke by Spurs. Roberto De Zerbi's side have already signed Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers this summer and are keen to bolster their defensive ranks further.

Van Hecke, whose contract at Brighton runs into its final year, has naturally emerged as a priority target for De Zerbi, who previously worked with the centre-back on the south coast. Spurs have already seen two offers knocked back—£40m and £50m respectively—but remain undeterred. A third bid worth £55m is now being prepared, though it still falls short of Brighton's £65m valuation.

The Seagulls, it seems, are working toward a potential compromise: they could use the Vuskovic sale (with Brighton's £30m offer, or potentially higher) to offset Van Hecke's departure. Brighton have submitted a €35m offer for Vuskovic, according to reports, suggesting negotiations between the clubs are edging closer to resolution.

Spurs have been the busiest Premier League side in the transfer market to date, but whether they can untangle this particular knot remains to be seen.
