Summer 2026 Transfer Circus: Who's Splashing the Cash?

The summer transfer window is officially underway, and across Europe's top leagues, clubs are already getting down to business. While two continental heavyweights currently sit atop the spending rankings, don't expect them to remain there once England's finest start flexing their financial muscles.

Here's where the money has been flowing so far this summer…

10. Marseille – £34.5m

Facing UEFA sanctions over financial irregularities, you'd hardly expect OM to be throwing money around with such abandon. Yet there they are. Their three summer arrivals include obligations to make permanent the loan moves of Hamed Traore and Timothy Weah, alongside an option exercised to sign Facundo Medina.

9. Brighton – £35.2m

The Seagulls have bolstered their ranks with winger Zadok Yohanna and defender Costinha, with further ambitions to land Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for a similar outlay. If Brighton's track record is anything to go by, all three will be valued at £200million within twelve months.

8. Juventus – £41.1m

The bulk of Juve's expenditure has been consumed by Lois Openda, courtesy of an obligation they're now regretting. The Belgian forward, signed from RB Leipzig last summer, has managed just a single goal for the Bianconeri. Still, Premier League suitors including Leeds and Everton are circling, hoping to provide Juventus an escape route.

7. Arsenal – £45m

The Gunners have channelled their summer funds entirely towards Pierro Hincapie. Whispers suggest the Ecuadorian could be moved on almost as quickly as the money lands at Bayer Leverkusen.

6. Real Madrid – £47.6m

Los Blancos have been particularly active, securing three Premier League talents – Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella – with only the latter requiring a substantial transfer fee. Florentino Perez has also secured his re-election as president and brought in a new manager.

5. Sporting Lisbon – £53.4m

Sporting have spent considerably, yet they're the sole club on this list operating in profit this summer – sitting roughly £10million in the black.

4. Chelsea – £54.5m

Chelsea's spending hasn't yet spiralled out of control, with the club nearly breaking even so far. Whether their three acquisitions – Geovany Quenda, Denner and Dastan Satpaev – will feature prominently remains questionable; they look more destined for Strasbourg's lineup.

3. Liverpool – £55m

The Reds' commitment was sealed back in January with the arrangement to bring Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Landing Yan Diomande could prove considerably pricier, particularly if his World Cup performances maintain their current trajectory.

2. Napoli – £57.5m

Manchester United banked roughly £38million of Napoli's summer outlay – quite fortunate to recover half their investment in Rasmus Hojlund. Another £14million headed to Sporting Lisbon when Napoli activated their option to permanently sign on-loan winger Alisson Santos.

1. Barcelona – £70m

In typical Barcelona fashion, they've unleashed a fortune on Newcastle for Anthony Gordon before pitching up at Manchester United claiming financial hardship over Marcus Rashford. Their lingering interest in Julian Alvarez hints at further levers yet to be pulled, though Real Madrid and Florentino Perez may have rather cleverly outmanoeuvred the Catalans with their absolutely genuine, entirely legitimate pursuit of Atletico Madrid's striker.
