Newcastle Face £32.5m Loss on Wissa as Magpies Desperately Seek Exit

Newcastle's experiment with Yoane Wissa has unravelled into one of the Magpies' most regrettable pieces of business, with the club now bracing for a substantial financial hit as they look to move the striker on.

The north-east outfit splashed out £55m on Wissa last summer—a fee that always felt extravagant for a forward approaching 29. Despite notching 19 Premier League goals in his final season at Brentford, the investment has spectacularly failed to pay dividends on Tyneside.

A knee injury disrupted his early months at St. James' Park, but even since recovering, Wissa has offered precious little to suggest he'll become a cornerstone of Eddie Howe's project. The numbers tell a damning story: three goals in 24 appearances, with just one start in Newcastle's last 16 matches. He's warmed the bench as an unused substitute on five occasions in their last nine league outings.

Newcastle are now prepared to cut their losses, with the club ready to accept bids in the region of £30m, according to transfer specialist Graeme Bailey. That represents a staggering capitulation from their original investment—but the picture grows bleaker still when Brentford's involvement is considered.

The Bees negotiated a 25 percent sell-on clause into the deal, meaning they'll pocket £7.5m from any £30m departure. That leaves Newcastle with just £22.5m, crystallising a loss of £32.5m on a transfer that was supposed to ease the burden following Alexander Isak's exit.

The Magpies' desperation to bin this particular mistake is evident in their willingness to offload Wissa to a Premier League rival without hesitation. Multiple top-flight clubs are understood to be monitoring the situation closely, though Saudi Pro League sides have also been actively communicated with by Newcastle's PIF ownership.

There's a strong possibility Wissa ends up in Saudi Arabia this summer, yet the £30m price tag holds sufficient appeal that another English club could yet swoop.
