Fowler Slams Slot's Leadership as Liverpool's Season Unravels

Robbie Fowler has turned up the heat on Arne Slot, insisting the Liverpool manager must demonstrate the leadership qualities required to steer his players through their current malaise.

The Reds legend pulled no punches in his assessment, claiming Slot has failed to extract the best from his squad when they need it most. "Arne Slot has to get the players to be better versions of what they are," Fowler said on TNT Sports. "You need leaders to drag people through tough times. That's what you need but we are not seeing that from the manager."

The domestic cup exit came in particularly painful fashion. Manchester City dispatched Liverpool 4-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals, a comprehensive demolition that left little room for debate. Mohamed Salah's missed penalty summed up a thoroughly dispiriting afternoon for the Reds.

Liverpool's sole remaining lifelines hang by a thread. They've scraped through to the Champions League quarter-finals, where they face PSG—a two-legged tie that now represents their only realistic path to silverware this season. Lose that, and there's genuinely nothing left to play for.

Leon Osman observed the stark contrast in mentality between the two sides at the Etihad. "Manchester City were comfortable winners and dominant in every way," he noted on BBC Radio 5 Live. "They look like a team that really have something to play for. They are on a mission to bring more silverware to the football club. The way they are playing and dominating, they have not given up on hopes of the Premier League either."

Liverpool, by contrast, appeared to embody a season in free fall. "Liverpool look like a team whose season has petered out, not a team who have a big Champions League game coming up," Osman added.

For a club accustomed to either winning trophies or reaching finals annually over the past three years, the prospect of a barren campaign looms large. Should PSG eliminate them from Europe, Slot will face mounting pressure from a fanbase expecting far better.
