Tottenham Land Record-Breaking Tonali Coup from Newcastle

Tottenham have pulled off a significant summer coup, finalising their move for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali in what represents a landmark moment for the north London club.

The 26-year-old Italian midfielder will arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the two clubs reached an agreement on a deal that smashes the club's previous transfer record. According to David Ornstein, the base fee stands at £92.5m, with a further £7.5m available through performance-related clauses centred on Champions League qualification—totalling £100m.

This represents Tottenham's most expensive acquisition to date and, more broadly, makes Tonali the costliest Italian player ever to move clubs. Mateo Retegui previously held that distinction after Al Qadsiah paid Atalanta €68m (£59m) in summer 2025 for the striker, but the Tottenham move now takes the crown.

The fee surpasses what Tottenham are simultaneously paying West Ham for Portugal midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who was also tracked by Manchester United. The Hammers deal is worth £85m.
