Tottenham Chasing Tonali and Fernandes in £185m Double Swoop

Tottenham's summer recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing, with the north London outfit now eyeing a significant double raid on two Premier League rivals.
Roberto De Zerbi's side have already completed four headline signings—Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Martin Dubravka—but the focus has now shifted to bolstering the midfield ranks.
Tonali Remains a Priority
Sandro Tonali sits firmly at the top of Spurs' wishlist. The Newcastle midfielder has attracted serious interest from Tottenham, who saw an initial £80m proposal rejected by the Magpies back in June. Newcastle are understood to be holding out for a minimum of £100m for the Italian international, the former AC Milan player.
Despite the rejection, Tottenham continue to pursue the 24-year-old and remain actively engaged in negotiations to secure his services.
Fernandes Deal Heating Up
Alongside Tonali, Tottenham are also pushing hard for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder represents one of the summer window's most intriguing cases, with multiple suitors circling.
Manchester United have similarly thrown their hat into the ring for Fernandes, creating a two-horse race for the playmaker's signature. West Ham are demanding £85m for their asset, leaving the door open for the highest bidder. Both clubs are understood to be in active dialogue with the player's representatives, with Tottenham reportedly keen to accelerate matters.
Should Spurs land both targets, the combined outlay would reach approximately £185m—a statement of intent from a club determined to compete at the highest level under their new manager.
The race for Fernandes in particular promises to go down to the wire, with United refusing to cede ground in what shapes as one of summer's most compelling transfer battles.
