Romano Pours Cold Water on Liverpool's Ordonez Deal as Reds Eye Austrian Teen Talent

Fabrizio Romano has put the brakes on speculation surrounding Liverpool's supposed swoop for Club Brugge centre-back Joel Ordonez, insisting no agreement exists between the two clubs at this stage.

The Merseyside outfit splurged over £400m in the summer window following their 20th Premier League title triumph, yet this season has proven far less straightforward. A glut of new arrivals failed to gel immediately, and alongside underperformance from established stars, Liverpool stumbled through a nightmarish run of nine defeats in 12 games. Manager Arne Slot has since steadied the ship, with the club now occupying fourth spot in the table.

Defensive reinforcements remain a priority, particularly after missing out on Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi during the summer market. Ordonez has emerged as a leading candidate, but Romano's latest update suggests premature reports of a deal are wide of the mark.

"The relationship between Liverpool and Club Brugge is excellent, but at this stage there is nothing agreed for Joel Ordonez," Romano stated via his YouTube channel. "Liverpool are scouting several centre-backs, including Ordonez, but there is no deal done and nothing agreed at this moment."

Journalist Graeme Bailey corroborated these claims, revealing that senior figures at Liverpool have confirmed no concrete negotiations are underway. Ordonez, despite widespread interest, is said to be receptive to a Premier League move and is expected to feature prominently for Ecuador at the World Cup finals this summer.

Meanwhile, Romano confirmed Liverpool have wrapped up an exciting prospect for the future. The club has secured 17-year-old Austrian Vienna centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe on a deal that will see him join next summer ahead of turning 18.

"The agreement is done. The player has agreed terms, and last summer there was interest from Italian and German clubs, but he decided to wait," Romano explained. "Liverpool moved early and closed the deal."

The teenager, described as a prospect combining height with impressive pace, will integrate into Liverpool's pre-season programme upon arrival. The Reds' swift action has allowed them to fend off European rivals in securing a player they view as a genuine long-term asset.
