Onana's Trabzonspor Return Confirmed as Fernandes Commits to United Future

Manchester United's summer business continues to gather pace, with fresh developments emerging on both the exit and retention fronts at Old Trafford.
André Onana's return to Trabzonspor is now locked in, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The goalkeeper's loan switch back to the Turkish outfit has been 'verbally agreed', with Trabzonspor set to cover the loan fee as the finer details are finalised. Onana, whose performances took a sharp downturn during the 2024/25 campaign, is no longer in Michael Carrick's plans following United's recruitment of Senne Lammels as their primary shot-stopper.
The 28-year-old had previously spent time on loan at Trabzonspor during the 2025/26 season and will now return for another stint. While speculation had swirled about a potential comeback to compete with Lammels for the number one shirt, such a scenario was always unlikely to materialise.
On a more positive note for United supporters, captain Bruno Fernandes has made his position crystal clear regarding his future. The Portuguese midfielder has already communicated to teammates and inner circle contacts his firm intention to remain at Manchester United heading into the new campaign.
This represents a significant boost for the club, particularly given the 31-year-old's recent form. Fernandes was arguably the Premier League's standout performer throughout 2025/26, cementing his status as indispensable to United's ambitions. His decision comes despite the Saudi Pro League continuing to circle, and after he previously aired grievances about INEOS pressure to depart last summer.
United's hierarchy are understood to harbour no concerns over Fernandes' future, even with an attractive €65million (£56m) release clause available to non-English clubs. The skipper's existing contract contains one year remaining plus a one-year extension option, providing the club with security over their talismanic figure.
With Onana's departure confirmed, United can now press ahead with their midfield recruitment plans for the coming season.
