Arsenal's Treatment Room Fills Up as Rice, Saka and Madueke Report for Assessment

International breaks have a way of testing a manager's nerve, and Mikel Arteta is currently presiding over a particularly busy medical wing at London Colney as Arsenal navigate a mounting fitness headache.

Several squad withdrawals over the weekend have left the Gunners with an expanded casualty list, with key starters undergoing evaluation as the club braces for a pivotal stretch of fixtures come April.

The most pressing concern centres on Noni Madueke, who has impressed considerably since arriving from Chelsea. The winger took a knock during England's Friday encounter with Uruguay, receiving rough treatment that forced him from the field. He's since been spotted sporting a protective brace on his left knee, and while the FA noted his return to Arsenal with a minor injury, his hobbled exit through the mixed zone suggests caution may be warranted regarding his near-term availability.

The picture looks somewhat rosier for other senior figures, however. Both Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have come back to the club for "medical assessment" after pulling out of England's Japan friendly. Rice had previously described feeling "shattered" by the relentless fixture pile-up, and his withdrawal alongside Saka appears rooted in sensible precaution rather than any serious concern.

With an FA Cup tie against Southampton and a Champions League quarter-final against Sporting CP looming, Arsenal will be banking on this rest period allows both men to be ready for the challenges ahead.

The defensive ranks are also being reshuffled. Gabriel and William Saliba both completed the full 90 minutes of the recent Carabao Cup final but have since been ruled out of their respective international commitments. Gabriel is managing "pain in his right knee," whilst Saliba is contending with "recurring pain in his left ankle" that the French Football Federation suggests demands a "minimum rest period of ten days." Should that timeline prove accurate, the defender could be in contention by the time domestic action resumes.

Eberechi Eze's absence—facing roughly a month sidelined with a calf issue—represents a more concrete blow. Yet there's encouragement elsewhere on the injury front.

Club skipper Martin Odegaard is reportedly "within reach" of a comeback following a month out with a knee problem, having structured his recovery around the April 4 trip to Southampton. Jurrien Timber and Leandro Trossard, meanwhile, have remained at the club to continue their rehabilitation programmes, with both expected to feature in the upcoming FA Cup encounter.
