Real Madrid Eye Chelsea's Acheampong as Fernandez Links Intensify

Enzo Fernandez is far from the only Chelsea player catching Real Madrid's eye this summer, with Florentino Perez's outfit now firmly focused on academy graduate Josh Acheampong.

The Argentine midfielder has dominated recent transfer chat, though he's insisted there's been no contact from the Spanish capital. Still, when pressed on his future, Fernandez left the door ajar: "I don't know. Right now I'm focused on here, then there's the World Cup and we'll see." The 2022 World Cup winner's comments came despite Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior publicly backing him to stay put.

Rosenior has been emphatic about the midfielder's commitment, highlighting the strength of his relationships with the squad. "In terms of contracts and where they want to be, there's not one player at this club since I've been here that has said that he doesn't want to be here in the summer," the manager explained. "The conversations are more about how we improve, what we can do as a group to improve, what we need to do to win in this moment."

However, Madrid's ambitions extend well beyond the midfield. The 19-year-old Acheampong, a product of Chelsea's youth system now established in the first-team picture, has emerged as a genuine target. A versatile defender capable of operating at right-back, centre-back, or even midfield, Acheampong has featured predominantly at right-back this season, though he's also been deployed centrally. The England Under-21 international fits Madrid's vision of younger talent capable of developing into leadership roles—particularly important with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba's contracts expiring at the end of the campaign.

Madrid see Acheampong as a long-term prospect to shore up their defensive depth. Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Borussia Dortmund are also circling, but Chelsea could be tempted to sell if an offer in the €25-30 million bracket materialises. At that price, the teenager could represent exceptional value for the Spanish and European powerhouses.
