Mourinho's Madrid Masterplan: Six-Player Overhaul to Restore Bernabéu Order

Jose Mourinho has wasted little time in making his ambitions clear at Real Madrid, demanding the club bankroll a wholesale squad revamp as he sets about restoring the Spanish giants to their former glory.

The Portuguese tactician, who has penned an initial two-year deal at the Bernabéu with a further 12-month option, has submitted his shopping list to Florentino Perez: six players. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a bold statement of intent from 'The Special One' as he embarks on his second reign in Madrid, 13 years after his first departure.

The task before him is substantial. Los Blancos have endured two barren campaigns without silverware, while the dressing room has become fractured, plagued by player disputes and tensions with the coaching staff. Perez has entrusted Mourinho with the job of mending those bridges and reestablishing the club's winning mentality.

Defence Requires the Heaviest Investment

The defensive line is where Mourinho plans his most aggressive reconstruction. With David Alaba departing on a free transfer and question marks hanging over the durability of both Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger, the Portuguese boss is hunting for two centre-backs to shore things up.

At right-back, the situation demands immediate attention. Trent Alexander-Arnold's debut campaign in Spain has been troublesome, while Dani Carvajal is heading for the exit. Mourinho has flagged a "reliable" right-back as essential business.

The left flank also requires reinforcement. Though Alvaro Carreras is earmarked as the long-term solution, a short-term replacement for Ferland Mendy is deemed necessary.

Midfield Creativity and Steel

Mourinho is equally determined to strengthen the engine room, identifying two midfielders as vital acquisitions. He's seeking a defensive midfielder to provide solidity alongside a creative playmaker to unlock opposition defences from the No 10 position.

Eduardo Camavinga appears destined to leave amid Premier League interest, further emphasising the need for fresh blood in midfield.

The Rumoured Targets

While the report stops short of naming specific players, the speculation mill has been working overtime. Madrid are eyeing Como's Jacobo Ramon and Nico Paz through buy-back clauses—the 6ft 5in centre-half and the creative midfielder respectively.

Tottenham's Micky van de Ven has caught their eye for centre-back duties, as has Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck, whose contract contains a €50-60m (£43-52m) release clause.

For the right-back position, Madrid are tracking Spurs' Pedro Porro, Brentford's Michael Kayode, and Manchester United's Diogo Dalot.

Josko Gvardiol at Manchester City is the preferred left-back option, though the price tag would be eye-watering. Similarly, Rodri represents Mourinho's ideal defensive midfielder, but City are unlikely to budge. Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez are being considered as alternatives.

All signs point to a hectic summer transfer window for Madrid, with a significant portion of their business likely to involve Premier League clubs.
