United Ready to Back Tchouameni Move as Fernandes Decision Looms

Manchester United are gearing up for a significant midfield overhaul this summer, and two names continue to dominate the transfer chatter at Old Trafford.
The club has already completed one piece of the puzzle, securing Ederson Silva from Atalanta for approximately £38m. With Casemiro departing on a free transfer, United are plotting to bring in as many as three reinforcements to shore up their engine room.
Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni has emerged as a genuine target for the Red Devils, despite the noise surrounding a training ground incident with teammate Federico Valverde. Earlier this year, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed United's interest in the French midfielder, though he cautioned against reading too much into the recent controversy.
The stumbling block of personal terms, however, appears surmountable. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, compensation wouldn't be an issue should United decide to push the boat out for Tchouameni, with the club willing to position him among their highest earners.
Yet Fernandes, the West Ham midfielder, remains the more immediate focus. Valued at up to £85m, the Brazilian had seemed destined for United's colours, but Tottenham have now muscled their way into the picture with serious financial intent. Reports suggest Fernandes himself favours a switch to Spurs.
Crucially, the player is expected to settle on his preferred destination before the month concludes. Once that decision lands, it could prompt West Ham to soften their asking price—potentially opening the door to alternative moves.
Alongside Tchouameni, Bournemouth's Alex Scott features among the contingency options should United's primary targets slip away.
