Perez Commits to Vinicius as Real Madrid Rule Out Fernandez Talks

Real Madrid have undergone a dramatic shift in their stance on Vinicius Junior, with Florentino Perez now set on tying the Brazilian down to fresh terms.

The winger has been in scintillating form of late, notching consecutive braces in victories over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid. Across 43 appearances this season, Vinicius has chipped in with 17 goals and nine assists—a vital contribution as Real Madrid sit four points adrift of Barcelona in La Liga despite a campaign that has fallen short of their usual standards.

Earlier speculation had suggested the club might consider cashing in on the 26-year-old during the summer window, when just twelve months would remain on his existing deal. The stumbling block had been Vinicius's insistence on matching the wages of Kylian Mbappe, who has been prolific with 38 goals in 35 outings across all competitions.

That narrative has now changed completely. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that Perez has already tabled a contract proposal and is "fully committed to extending the player's contract." Romano stated: "The relationship between the president and the player is excellent, and the club have already presented a contract proposal. Real Madrid are pushing strongly to reach an agreement as soon as possible."

He continued: "This is now a negotiation phase, with discussions ongoing, but the intention from the club side has always been consistent. Florentino Perez wants Vinícius Junior to remain at Real Madrid, and that position has not changed."

On the midfield front, Romano moved to quash suggestions of imminent movement involving Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine has made clear his immediate priorities lie with the Blues, and crucially, no substantive discussions have taken place with the Spanish outfit.

"At the moment, there is no agreement over a new contract between the player and Chelsea," Romano explained. "If an important opportunity arises, a summer move cannot be ruled out, but Chelsea remain in control."

He added: "Regarding links with Real Madrid, Enzo Fernandez has stated that there are no talks. This is accurate, as there are currently no negotiations or concrete discussions. Real Madrid have not yet made a final decision on which midfielder they want to sign."
