Perez's €150m "Galactico" Mystery Solved: It's Olise All Along

The cat's out of the bag. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez spent Thursday evening playing coy with the press, dangling hints about his mystery €150m signing like a magician refusing to reveal his trick—except, it turns out, everyone already knows what's in the hat.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's presidential election, Perez rattled off a list of names he insisted the record-breaking deal wasn't for. "It's not [Jeremy] Doku and it's not [Erling] Haaland, it's not [Harry] Kane, it's not [Michael] Olise," he declared with all the conviction of a man who'd definitely just told you exactly who he was planning to buy.

The Telegraph, however, has other ideas. The outlet claims Real Madrid will table an audacious €150m bid for Bayern Munich's Michael Olise if Perez retains his position following Sunday's vote. The 24-year-old winger enjoyed a stunning campaign in Bavaria, notching 22 goals and 31 assists across all competitions, and remains under contract until 2029.

The timing was hardly subtle. Perez had just confirmed Real Madrid's acquisition of Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries via his £20m release clause, before teasing his "Galactico" addition. "I'm going to make an offer to a Champions League club soon, on Tuesday, which will be the biggest payment Real Madrid would have made for a player in their history," he said, adding that the signing would be a young midfielder or forward from outside the Premier League.

Yet when The Telegraph pressed him on specifics, Perez's denials came thick and fast. Perhaps too thick and too fast.

José Mourinho, Madrid's incoming manager should Perez win the election, has made his interest in Olise abundantly clear. He was even spotted in Berlin during the German Cup final, a detail that set the rumour mill spinning at full throttle.

Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeness, though, isn't budging. His message to Madrid was blunt: "He can cast five eyes on Olise: he won't get him. He remains unsellable."

Whether Perez's charm offensive—or his €150m chequebook—will prove persuasive remains to be seen. But for now, Hoeness has drawn a line in the sand, and it runs directly through any potential deal.
