Mourinho Lays Down His Terms: What the Special One Demands from Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has set out his stall in discussions with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, laying down three "non-negotiable demands" during a one-hour video conference as the two parties explore the possibility of reuniting at the Bernabeu.

The Benfica boss, who previously managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013 and captured the La Liga title in 2010/11, is now firmly in the frame to replace departing manager Alvaro Arbeloa. With Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp showing no appetite to return to the dugout, Mourinho has emerged as Los Blancos' prime target.

According to reports from Spain, Mourinho used his meeting with Perez to outline his conditions for any potential move. The Portuguese tactician is seeking a restructuring of the medical department, full disciplinary authority, and absolute sporting control at the club. Perez is expected to respond to these demands next week.

Notably, super-agent Jorge Mendes was present during the talks, though he took a back seat as Mourinho made his position clear. The manager has neither committed nor ruled out the move, instead choosing to table his requirements before any formal agreement can materialise.

Benfica remain eager to retain their manager and have been attempting to negotiate the removal of his release clause, valued at three million euros. The Portuguese club are reportedly offering a significant salary increase as part of contract extension talks, with hopes that Mourinho might finish his managerial career at the Estadio da Luz.

There has also been speculation linking Mourinho with the Portugal national team job following the World Cup, though Benfica's preference is clearly to persuade him to extend his stay in Lisbon.

Nevertheless, Real Madrid's interest remains genuine. Mourinho has previously indicated his readiness to return to Spain, and with Perez's backing, a summer move remains very much a possibility. The question now is whether the president will accede to the manager's demands—and whether Mourinho will ultimately say yes to the job.
