Mourinho Circles Man City's Dias as Madrid Pursue Summer Defensive Overhaul

Real Madrid's defensive recruitment drive has intensified under Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager making a determined play for Manchester City's Ruben Dias.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Mourinho has been actively canvassing information on the 29-year-old centre-back, with Madrid signalling their intention to strengthen the backline before the summer window closes. The club faces a reshuffled defensive unit following David Alaba's departure after his contract expired, though they have secured Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer from Liverpool and locked Antonio Rudiger into fresh terms.

Dias has been City's cornerstone since arriving from Benfica in September 2020 for £65million. The Portugal international has been integral to the club's recent dominance, collecting four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Champions League medal, and a Carabao Cup during his five-and-a-half seasons at the Etihad. He remains contracted to City until summer 2029, presenting a significant obstacle to any potential move.

Moretto revealed Mourinho's shopping list extends beyond Dias, with Benfica's Tomas Araujo also under consideration. "They are 100% committed to signing another centre-back," the journalist told Marca. "Mourinho is calling, sounding out, asking about Ruben Dias from City and Araujo."

The prospect of Dias heading to Madrid gains additional intrigue through the Portuguese connection. Bernardo Silva, who departed City at the season's end after nine years and 460 appearances, has already committed to a two-year contract with Los Blancos. Silva departs Manchester as a genuine club institution, having won six Premier League titles, one Champions League, three FA Cups, and five Carabao Cups during his tenure.

A reunion between Dias and Silva at the Bernabéu would represent a significant coup for Mourinho's rebuild, though prying the defender away from City's grasp remains a formidable undertaking.
