Klopp Plots Madrid Overhaul: Rodri Demands and Four-Way Exits Lined Up

The wheels are already in motion at the Bernabéu. Jurgen Klopp appears to have begun plotting his Real Madrid revolution, with Spanish reports claiming the German has already hammered out agreements on four outgoings and four arrivals ahead of the summer transfer window.

The biggest prize in Klopp's wish list is Manchester City's Rodri. The Spanish midfielder is positioned as non-negotiable to the 42-year-old's project, with Klopp identifying the middle of the park as the squad's fundamental weakness. At 29 and with his contract expiring in 2027, Rodri is reportedly keen on a return to Spain. Madrid could offer him undisputed starting status and a compelling sporting project—enough to convince him to leave the Etihad despite his City pedigree.

According to reports, Rodri sees this moment as ideal timing. Having come through Atlético Madrid's youth academy, a homecoming carries genuine appeal. With no plans to renew his Manchester City deal, the club would have little choice but to negotiate a reasonable fee rather than lose him for nothing.

Alongside Rodri, Klopp has targeted Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck, Paris Saint-Germain's Vitinha, and Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz—the latter a long-time target for Liverpool—to bolster his squad.

The departures already locked in are left-back Fran García, midfielder Dani Ceballos, Franco Mastantuono, and David Alaba, the veteran defender who has been a fixture at Madrid for years.

This all comes after Real Madrid sacked Xabi Alonso in early January following their Spanish Super Cup final defeat to Barcelona, with whispers that certain players had grown frustrated with his tactical approach and team selection. Álvaro Arbeloa stepped into the breach but appears unlikely to survive the season.

Klopp, currently heading Global Soccer for the Red Bull group, has already been in talks with Madrid's hierarchy to lay out his demands. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed last month that admiration for the Liverpool legend exists within the board, though he stressed there were no formal negotiations or concrete steps at that stage. Romano also noted that when Klopp announced his Liverpool exit, both Manchester United and Chelsea made approaches—claims both clubs have flatly denied.
