Klopp's Real Madrid Demands: Sell Bellingham and Carvajal to Build His Project

Jurgen Klopp has laid down his demands should he take charge at Real Madrid, with the German insisting that Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal must leave the Bernabéu as part of any agreement to manage the club.

According to reports from Spain, Klopp outlined his conditions during what was described as his "last meeting" with Real Madrid officials regarding the managerial position. The pair's departures would be essential to establishing the kind of control and playing philosophy the 57-year-old demands, the reports claim.

The rationale behind Bellingham's potential exit is particularly striking given his standing at the club. Though the English midfielder remains a cornerstone of Real Madrid's project, Klopp apparently believes his influence could prove detrimental to team harmony if he refuses to fully embrace the manager's methods. The German is said to be adamant that his midfielders must demonstrate the running power and work rate he considers non-negotiable—qualities he doesn't believe Bellingham currently displays to the required standard.

Allowing both players to depart would net Real Madrid a minimum of €150m, funds earmarked for signings tailored to Klopp's preferred style of play.

The backdrop to these developments involves Bellingham's rumoured discontent under previous manager Xabi Alonso, though the midfielder publicly denied any friction. Alonso himself departed last month following Real Madrid's 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, with reports of dressing room tensions over tactics and team selection having preceded his exit. Álvaro Arbeloa was promoted as his immediate successor.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Real Madrid harbour genuine interest in Klopp, revealing that the former Liverpool boss enjoys support within the club's hierarchy. However, Romano stressed that any move remains conditional on Arbeloa's failure to impress during the remainder of the season, with the Champions League and La Liga performances set to determine whether the current manager retains his position beyond this campaign.

For now, Klopp remains focused on his role as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, the parent company overseeing RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, and New York Red Bulls among others. The German departed Anfield at the end of 2023/24, allowing Arne Slot to assume control at Anfield and guide Liverpool to their first Premier League title since 2020.

Romano concluded that Real Madrid will not actively pursue Klopp unless he publicly signals his intention to return to management. Should Arbeloa's tenure falter and Klopp make his interest known, a summer 2026 appointment could materialise—but only if the current regime fails to deliver.
