Klopp Set for Madrid Move with Schlotterbeck in Tow as Perez Plots Summer Overhaul

Real Madrid appear to be closing in on their managerial appointment, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly having given his blessing to a switch to the Bernabéu. The German tactician, currently serving as Red Bull's Global Head of Football since early 2025, has been out of the dugout since departing Liverpool at the conclusion of last season.

The 58-year-old's arrival would signal the end of Álvaro Arbeloa's tenure in charge, with Florentino Pérez seemingly ready to move in a new direction for next season. While Spanish outlets have offered conflicting commentary on the saga in recent months, the latest narrative suggests Klopp has indeed committed to the role and has already furnished Pérez with a shopping list of nine targets.

Three names have emerged as particular priorities for the incoming boss: centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck, midfielder Enzo Fernández, and winger Kenan Yildiz. The report suggests these acquisitions would represent significant investments but would meaningfully strengthen areas where Madrid currently find themselves stretched thin.

Schlotterbeck's capture would represent something of a coup, having been touted as a potential Barcelona acquisition for the summer window. The Borussia Dortmund stalwart, widely regarded as one of Europe's finest defenders, has drawn admirers from across the continent—Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich among them—but his preference lies with Madrid. With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger both likely to depart as free agents, the German international represents an obvious solution to Madrid's defensive requirements.

Meanwhile, Pérez has already moved decisively on one front. Como's Nico Paz is set to return to the Spanish capital via a buy-back clause, originally agreed when the player departed for just over six million euros. The clause, valued at nine million euros, includes a 50 per cent sell-on arrangement and must be activated by 30 May. According to reports, the club has already notified interested parties that Paz's future lies back in Madrid.
