Real Madrid's €150m Alvarez Bid Knocked Back; Perez Eyes Dual Blockbuster Raids

Real Madrid have formally confirmed that Atletico Madrid have rebuffed their advances for Julian Alvarez, turning down a €150 million (£129m) proposal for the Argentine marksman.

The World Cup-winning striker has flourished since departing Manchester City, establishing himself as one of Europe's elite finishers. His 49 goals across 104 appearances for Atletico over the last two seasons have naturally attracted the continent's heavyweight suitors, with Arsenal, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly circling.

Yet it appears the Madrid giants are determined to outmanoeuvre their rivals. In an official statement, Real Madrid outlined their failed approach: "Following the meeting of the Board of Directors held today, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atletico de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julian Alvarez. After reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club Atletico de Madrid has expressed its gratitude for the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the player's release clause."

Alvarez's release clause sits at a frankly astronomical €500 million, though journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested alternative avenues may exist. When the 26-year-old joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024, CEO Miguel Ángel Gil and former sporting director Andrea Berta apparently negotiated provisions allowing him to depart at a figure below his official buyout clause.

The striker is understood to favour Barcelona, yet Real Madrid president Florentino Perez appears unfazed. According to Spanish sources, the newly re-elected chief is plotting an audacious €300 million (£259m) investment to land two marquee signings this summer. Alvarez and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez are the primary targets, with Perez intent on reshaping both his midfield and attacking arsenal in one fell swoop.

Such ambition mirrors the club's intentions to bring in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate and PSV full-back Denzel Dumfries, whilst also appointing Jose Mourinho as manager for the forthcoming campaign.
