Real Madrid Make Bold Move for Silva as Mourinho Eyes Spanish Midfield Overhaul

Real Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of Manchester City's Bernardo Silva with concrete negotiations now underway to secure the Portuguese midfielder on a free transfer ahead of next season, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Galácticos' new boss José Mourinho is spearheading the move to bring Silva to the Spanish capital as one of his flagship signings, with the Portuguese tactician keen to add experience and quality to his midfield ranks as he attempts to end a two-year trophy drought at the Bernabéu.

Silva's departure from Manchester City is confirmed for the end of this month, and whilst the 30-year-old had previously been engaged in discussions with both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid have now emerged as the frontrunners with what Romano describes as "advanced talks" in motion.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano outlined the dramatic shift in proceedings: "Real Madrid have entered into serious, concrete and strong negotiations to sign Bernardo Silva. This is a major development because initially Silva was exploring options with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid on completely different terms."

The transfer specialist emphasised that nothing has yet been formalised, with Silva keen to resolve his future swiftly following the World Cup. However, Real Madrid's aggressive approach suggests movement could come rapidly.

The connection between Mourinho and Silva appears pivotal to the deal's momentum. Both share Portuguese heritage, and crucially, they're represented by the same agent – Jorge Mendes, the influential powerbroker who orchestrated Mourinho's return to Real Madrid. Whilst Mendes maintains strong relationships across Spanish football, Romano stressed that his involvement alone isn't the determining factor, though it certainly facilitates proceedings.

"Real Madrid want to close this deal as soon as possible," Romano stated. "Mourinho is eager to have a quality midfielder and leader of Silva's calibre to help rebuild the club. I wouldn't be surprised to see a verbal agreement or confirmation very soon given how forcefully Real Madrid are pursuing this."

The arrival of Silva would represent a significant coup for Real Madrid's summer reconstruction under their Portuguese manager.
