Real Madrid's managerial merry-go-round looks set to continue this summer, with reports suggesting the club have already plotted Alvaro Arbeloa's exit despite his recent appointment.

The Whites endured a trophy-less 2024/25 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, prompting a reshuffle in the dugout. Xabi Alonso arrived from Bayern Leverkusen as the chosen successor, but his tenure proved disastrous. Arbeloa, transitioning from his Castilla responsibilities, was parachuted in as a stopgap solution. However, his opening weeks have hardly inspired confidence. Real Madrid crashed out of the Copa del Rey to Albacete in his maiden fixture, then suffered a humbling 4-2 Champions League play-off defeat to Jose Mourinho's Benfica on Tuesday evening.

There remains a silver lining on the La Liga front, where Madrid have won both matches under Arbeloa to sit just a point behind Barcelona. Yet Spanish sources claim the die is already cast regarding his future.

According to reports, Arbeloa is merely a holding pattern while the club chart their next course. Club president Florentino Perez has granted him the confidence to steer the ship until summer, but the hierarchy have already resolved to pursue a more seasoned tactician. Jurgen Klopp heads the queue of candidates, with Joachim Low standing as a potential alternative should negotiations falter.

The transfer blueprint is equally ambitious. Madrid have zeroed in on five priority deals, with Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck topping the shopping list. The defender carries a tempting price tag of 60 million euros (£52m), making him an attractive prospect despite Liverpool's reported interest.
