PSG Deploy Ferrari's F1 Secrets in Champions League Push

In a bid to squeeze every competitive edge from their squad, PSG have adopted cutting-edge wearable technology borrowed from the world of Formula 1 as they navigate a crucial spell in their Champions League campaign.
The Parisian club has partnered with WHOOP, a US-based performance monitoring specialist, to track and optimize the physical condition of their players and backroom staff. The technology—which monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep quality, strain levels, and stress markers—has already proven its worth in the high-stakes environment of elite motorsport, having been deployed by Ferrari's F1 operation since 2026.
Luis Enrique's side face Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final first leg, and the partnership represents an attempt to maintain peak condition through an arduous run-in. By harnessing real-time biometric data, PSG hope to refine training regimens, accelerate recovery protocols, and reduce injury risk—a particularly pressing concern given their current fitness headaches.
Midfielder Vitinha is among those dealing with physical problems, having sustained a heel injury during the recent match against Lyon. The influential midfielder will sit out Saturday's fixture against Angers, with PSG confirming he will undergo treatment and receive a full assessment by week's end.
This marks the first time a football club has formally partnered with WHOOP, making the wearable technology available to elite performers including Kylian Mbappé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The system has previously been employed by military personnel and top-level athletes across various disciplines.
"Innovation is at the heart of Paris Saint-Germain's project," PSG's Chief Revenue Officer Richard Heaselgrave stated. "With WHOOP, we are taking a new step forward by enabling athletes to better understand and enhance their physical condition through leading technology. This partnership reflects our ambition to make performance more accessible, while helping everyone take better care of their well-being and recovery."
The club has also struck a commercial arrangement allowing supporters to purchase the same wearable technology used by their heroes, extending the partnership beyond the training ground and into the commercial sphere.
