Farioli Rises as Leading Contender for Chelsea Role Following Rosenior Exit

Chelsea's hunt for a new permanent manager has turned towards Porto's Francesco Farioli, with the Italian emerging as a genuine candidate to fill the vacancy left by Liam Rosenior's departure.

Rosenior lasted just 106 days at Stamford Bridge before the club moved on from the former Strasbourg boss following reports of irreparable rifts between him and several key players. The 41-year-old's exit came at an awkward juncture, with Chelsea having reached the FA Cup final under interim boss Calum McFarlane, though Champions League qualification for next season has slipped beyond reach.

BlueCo have reportedly given Farioli's credentials thorough consideration, with the 37-year-old now firmly on their shortlist as they plot their next managerial appointment. The Porto chief has delivered impressive numbers in his tenure, winning 37 of his 50 matches—a formidable 74% success rate—and is viewed as one of Europe's most progressive young coaching talents.

Farioli's rise through the ranks has been notably swift. He began his managerial career at Turkish outfit Fatih Karagumruk at just 31 years old, before moving through Alanyaspor, Nice, and Ajax. During his spell in Amsterdam, he came agonisingly close to claiming Eredivisie honours before departing for Porto, where he now finds himself in a title scrap with Jose Mourinho's Benfica.

The search committee, comprising co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart alongside Dave Fallows, Joe Shields and Sam Jewell, are undertaking a collaborative recruitment process. Other names linked with the role include Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, Xabi Alonso, Marco Silva, Matthias Jaissle, plus former Chelsea stalwarts Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis.

When quizzed on potential Chelsea interest recently, Farioli offered a curt response. "I'm the coach of Porto, and I'm really happy to be here," he told Sport TV, swiftly ending the line of questioning.

Nevertheless, Chelsea's hierarchy have formally received his name and have been monitoring his development closely. Despite Farioli's public commitment to his current post, BlueCo view him as one of their most compelling options in a wide-ranging search.
