Vieira Hails "Exceptional" Bouaddi as Arsenal Eye Lille Starlet's £80m Summer Move

Patrick Vieira has lavished praise on Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Lille midfielder who's catching Arsenal's eye this summer—and the Arsenal legend reckons the Moroccan youngster is the real jewel in his nation's World Cup squad.
Bouaddi has already clocked up two full 90-minute appearances for Morocco at the tournament, turning heads with performances that belie his tender age. Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Vieira was effusive in his assessment: "Really impressive, he's only 18 but he plays like a 30-year-old. He's got the tactical awareness, I think he's always well positioned. He's got the technical ability to play out from the back and a really strong personality."
The former Gunners captain added his verdict on Morocco's midfield unit: "I quite like the midfield three from Morocco but, of course, he's the talent in this team."
The numbers back up the hype. Against Scotland, Bouaddi landed 92 per cent of his passes, added 16 carries to the tally, and chipped in with an interception, a clearance, and four recoveries according to SofaScore—a mature all-round display from someone still in his teens.
However, prying him away from Lille won't come cheap. The French outfit are reportedly demanding £80million if the teenager is to depart this summer, a hefty fee for an 18-year-old still developing his game at the highest level.
Arsenal's pursuit appears serious, though. Sources suggest Bouaddi sits atop the Gunners' summer shopping list, with Andrea Berta and his recruitment team reportedly feeling "positive" about negotiations. "Arsenal have been pursuing the Bouaddi deal strongly," one insider told Caught Offside. "No agreement on personal terms yet, but [Andrea] Berta and his team are feeling positive. I'd expect Bouaddi to be the top target, but work has also been done on Manu Kone, Sandro Tonali, and others."
The Mikel Arteta project clearly views Bouaddi as a long-term investment worth the premium price. Whether Arsenal can get a deal over the line depends on their willingness to meet Lille's demands—though cheaper alternatives like Kone exist, and Tonali offers more proven pedigree at the elite level.
