Palace Swoop for Larsen as Leeds Lose Out on Wolves Striker

Crystal Palace have stolen a march on Leeds United in the battle to land Wolves' Jørgen Strand Larsen, with talks between the two clubs progressing rapidly over recent days.

The 25-year-old striker emerged as Palace's primary target as they look to bolster their attacking options before the January window closes. Guehi's recent switch to Manchester City has left a void in their ranks, whilst Jean-Philippe Mateta has made clear his desire to depart Selhurst Park, keen on Champions League football with just 18 months remaining on his contract.

Mateta has attracted interest from several quarters, with Nottingham Forest moving to the fore after Aston Villa and Juventus stepped back from their pursuit. Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked, though Forest appear closest to securing the Frenchman's services.

Strand Larsen's form last season—14 goals and four assists in the Premier League for Wolves—had caught plenty of eyes, including Newcastle's, though the Magpies missed out in the summer window. His performances have dipped this term, but Leeds have remained persistent suitors, tabling bids around £40m which Wolves rejected out of hand.

Palace have now upped the ante considerably. According to reports, the South London club have improved their offer to £45m with a further £5m available through add-ons, with Jorge Mendes orchestrating negotiations on behalf of Wolves. Whilst no formal bid has yet landed at Molineux, conversations regarding both fee and personal terms are said to be well advanced.

Should the deal reach completion, it would represent Palace's record transfer outlay. The move represents a significant show of ambition as they attempt to reshape their attack during this window.
