Dyche Axed at Forest as Pereira Emerges as Front-Runner for City Ground Hotseat

Nottingham Forest have terminated Sean Dyche's employment as head coach in the wake of a frustrating 0-0 draw against struggling Wolves, a result that has left the Midlands outfit sitting precariously just three points clear of the drop zone.

Despite unleashing 35 shots at Jose Sa's goal, Forest couldn't breach the Wolves defence on Wednesday evening. The point proved costly for Dyche, with rock-bottom Wolves securing their ninth of the season and ramping up the pressure on the under-fire manager.

Dyche's tenure at the City Ground proved short-lived. Appointed only in October, the former Burnley boss oversaw 25 matches, winning 10 of them. However, the alarming statistic tells the real story: just two victories have materialised since the new year in the Premier League.

The club confirmed the sacking in the early hours following the Wolves clash, issuing a brief statement: "Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach. We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club, and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time."

It marks the third managerial change of the season at the City Ground.

Speaking immediately after the draw, Dyche had lamented his side's profligacy in front of goal. "Very frustrated of course," he told reporters. "Knock on the door but find a moment of clarity, it was one of them. They set their stall out early to come and defend and look for breaks. It is very frustrating to dominate a game like that, with so many chances and there were plenty of good chances but it's finding that killer moment."

He continued: "The crowd get nervy, the team get nervy, there is a lot of pressure on these games. A lot of the performance is right but you have to score a goal obviously. That is the hardest thing for us as managers and coaches, for someone to find that defining moment. There were a few very strong chances. The start was good. We were opening them up. When teams are fully flowing, finding that last pass, making that run they all seem to come together quickly. When it is not quite there people start snatching shots and cross and the crowd get on top quickly. This is part and parcel of the Premier League."

According to reports, owner Evangelos Marinakis pulled the trigger based on three principal concerns: recent results, an apparent rift developing between Dyche and the playing squad, and mounting fears about a deteriorating trajectory in performances. The manager had been summoned for showdown talks with Marinakis immediately after the final whistle.

The search for a replacement is already well underway. Marinakis is keen to install a new manager with urgency, and one name has quickly risen to the forefront of discussions.

Vitor Pereira, the 57-year-old Portuguese tactician, has emerged as the standout candidate for the vacancy. The former Wolves chief has been available since November, when he departed Molineux with the club anchored to the bottom of the table after a winless start to the campaign. Yet Pereira carries significant goodwill from his spell at Wolves the previous season, when he orchestrated a remarkable turnaround following his December 2024 arrival at Molineux.

That track record in salvaging a relegation fight could prove decisive as Marinakis contemplates a short-term fix through to May.

Other names in contention include Ivan Juric, whose representatives have offered him to Marinakis, alongside Croatian counterpart Igor Tudor. However, Pereira's proven ability to arrest a sinking ship at Wolves holds considerable appeal.

Looking further ahead, Marinakis continues to harbour longer-term ambitions of appointing Fulham's Marco Silva to the post.
