Glasner to take Forest helm after Pereira's dramatic midnight dismissal

Nottingham Forest have moved swiftly to appoint Oliver Glasner as their latest managerial incumbent, but not before executing a rather dramatic dismissal of Vitor Pereira in the final moments of June 30th.

The Portuguese boss, who had overseen just 20 matches at the helm, received his marching orders via email at 11:58pm—a move that exploited a contractual clause set to expire at midnight. With two minutes remaining before the termination window slammed shut, Forest's board acted decisively.

This latest managerial change represents the fourth departure in barely nine months. Nuno Espirito Santo departed in September 2025, followed by Ange Postecoglou in October, Sean Dyche in February 2026, and now Pereira's swift exit.

According to reports, the club and their now-departed manager had previously been in alignment regarding pre-season arrangements and had recently convened to discuss summer strategy. A meeting had also been scheduled to explore fresh contract terms, making the subsequent sack email rather the abrupt conclusion to proceedings.

Glasner, departing Crystal Palace after an impressive campaign that culminated in UEFA Conference League glory, represents the club's choice to stabilise the dugout. The 51-year-old had attracted interest from Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks, though both vacancies have since been filled elsewhere.

On the surface, the move might appear a sideways step for Glasner, given Palace's Conference League triumph and their recent elevated status. Forest finished 16th last season—a single place and point adrift of Palace—though they occupied seventh the campaign prior. Palace have managed top-half finishes only twice during their 13-year spell in the Premier League during this period, suggesting Forest may offer more fertile ground for managerial ambition.
