Spurs in the Hunt: Hutter Emerges as Tudor Replacement as De Zerbi Favoured

The managerial merry-go-round at Tottenham is spinning at full tilt. With Igor Tudor's position increasingly precarious following a disastrous start to life in North London, the club's hierarchy has begun casting its net far and wide for potential replacements.

Tudor arrived on February 14 with a reputation as a firefighter capable of orchestrating miraculous escapes from the drop. Yet the Croatian's opening four matches proved to be a sobering reality check, with Spurs surrendering all three points in each outing. A late leveller at Anfield and a spirited 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid provided some respite, though European elimination via a 5-7 aggregate scoreline hardly constitutes a morale-booster.

This weekend's home fixture against Nottingham Forest looms as absolutely critical—both for Tudor's tenure and Spurs' fight to remain among the elite.

Hutter in the Frame

Among the names being circulated is Adi Hutter, the 56-year-old Austrian strategist who has been without a club since Monaco dispensed with his services in October. According to transfer correspondent Rudy Galetti, Spurs have begun gathering intelligence on the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss, who could slot in either immediately or arrive fresh for next season.

Hutter's CV boasts league titles at Red Bull Salzburg and Young Boys, whilst his two Bundesliga Coach of the Year accolades underline his credentials in German football. A stint managing Borussia Monchengladbach preceded his Monaco appointment, though his limited experience at the very highest level of European club football may give some Spurs supporters pause for thought.

De Zerbi Remains Odds-On

Yet observers still regard De Zerbi as the standout candidate. Keith Wyness, the former chief executive at Aston Villa and Everton, has indicated to Football Insider that the Italian represents Spurs' primary target, with preliminary discussions already underway.

"If it was to be anybody, I think De Zerbi is the favourite," Wyness reflected. "And I think he would be the one that makes most sense. I don't think there's anybody else."

However, there's a significant complication: De Zerbi has reportedly rejected the prospect of joining Spurs immediately, preferring instead to wait until the summer transfer window. That presents an obvious headache—Tottenham must first secure Premier League survival to have any realistic shot at landing their man.

Even then, they face stiff competition. Manchester United are equally keen admirers of De Zerbi and possess the financial firepower to outbid their rivals should the opportunity arise.

Other names circulating include Mauricio Pochettino, Robbie Keane, and Marco Silva—though none commands quite the same conviction as De Zerbi at present.
