Newcastle Eye Nmecha as Guimaraes Saga Intensifies; Arsenal Readies £80m Offer

Newcastle have thrown their hat into the ring for Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, the 25-year-old German midfielder who has caught the eye of several top clubs this summer.

The Magpies' interest comes as they brace themselves for Arsenal's renewed assault on their captain Bruno Guimaraes, and amid suggestions that Sandro Tonali could be heading for the exit door—likely towards Tottenham.

Eddie Howe has long admired Nmecha and harboured designs on recruiting him back in 2023, before eventually plumping for Tonali from AC Milan instead. Manchester United have been actively pursuing the midfielder, with Christopher Vivell, their Director of Recruitment, maintaining close contact with Nmecha's representatives.

The 25-year-old's asking price sits around €85m (£75.5m), though Newcastle would be keen to negotiate a lower fee. However, should either Tonali or Guimaraes depart St James' Park this summer, that negotiating position may well shift.

Arsenal Turn up Heat on Guimaraes

Arsenal have ramped up their pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder following an initial £55m proposal. The North London club are now preparing an offer in the region of £80m, according to reports, having held extensive discussions with Guimaraes and his representatives in recent weeks.

Those talks have apparently left Arsenal increasingly optimistic about their chances of landing the midfielder, provided they can strike an agreement with Newcastle. The Gunners have now zeroed in on Guimaraes as their primary midfield target for the summer, moving away from their earlier interest in Tonali.

Newcastle, however, are maintaining a firm stance. The club have refused to publicly name their price for Guimaraes and have made it abundantly clear they have no intention of selling one of their most important players. Behind closed doors, there is a sense that any genuine offer would need to comfortably surpass Arsenal's anticipated opening bid.

Nmecha's Star Rising

Nmecha's stock continues to rise. Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are all keeping tabs on the situation, though a move to English football is viewed as a plausible option down the line. For now, the midfielder remains settled at Dortmund and fully committed to World Cup preparations with Germany.

With the new season approaching, Nmecha is poised to step into the salary bracket previously held by Niklas Süle—a marker of his growing importance at the German club. However, the high asking price surrounding him has deterred formal approaches from Premier League clubs thus far, with Liverpool and Manchester United both pursuing alternative targets in midfield.
