Trippier Weighs Up Wolves Exit After Edwards Shock Axe

Kieran Trippier finds himself in a peculiar predicament at Molineux barely before his tenure has begun. The former England full-back, who only arrived at Wolves this week alongside Raul Jimenez, is now weighing up his options after the club's shock decision to sack boss Rob Edwards.

The timing is nothing short of farcical. Edwards, appointed just seven months prior after being lured from Middlesbrough, was the driving force behind Trippier's move to the Championship outfit. The 35-year-old had even waxed lyrical about the manager's passion in his unveiling, speaking of the immediate chemistry he felt with the former Luton chief.

"I had a good chat with the manager, and what struck me first was how passionate he was for helping the club move forward to get out of the Championship next season," Trippier said upon signing. "You just have a feeling straight away and I felt that chemistry straight away with the manager."

Cue the rug being pulled from under everyone involved. Edwards got his marching orders a mere 48 hours after Trippier's arrival, leaving several Wolves players in a state of bewilderment. The club is reportedly zeroing in on Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto as his replacement.

What makes matters worse for Trippier is that he discovered the news through the grapevine rather than any official channel, much like Edwards himself. According to Sky Sports, the defender is now seriously contemplating "ripping up his contract" before it even officially kicks off on July 1.

It's worth noting that Trippier's current arrangement is technically a pre-contract agreement, with his official Newcastle deal running until the summer. Should he decide to walk away from Molineux, he won't be short of suitors—he reportedly spurned several Premier League advances to join Edwards in the second tier.

At 54 caps for England, Trippier boasts considerable pedigree across English football's elite tier, having graced Newcastle, Tottenham and Burnley with his services. His spell at Atletico Madrid saw him win La Liga, whilst he captained Newcastle to League Cup triumph during the 2024/25 season.
